Glacier Bay Incorporated announces "Masterflux" brushless DC motor and controller technology.

March 1, 2002 - Oakland, California based Glacier Bay Incorporated announces the sale of its
"Masterflux" brushless DC motor and controller technology to Tecumseh Products Company.
Under the terms of the sales, Tecumseh (TECUB) obtains all rights to the name Masterflux and
use of the brushless DC motor and controller technology in variable-speed compressor
applications. As a new Tecumseh division, Masterflux will introduce a complete line of high
efficiency variable-speed hermetic compressors aimed at niche applications including marine,
RV, transportation, scientific and electronics cooling.
According to Kevin Alston, President of Glacier Bay, the brushless DC technology will allow
Masterflux to sell compressors that have higher power density and better end-use efficiency
than any compressor now available. " These compressor have much greater capacity and smaller size
than any DC input compressor now on the market. By combining our motor and drive
technology and Tecumseh's expertise in compressor design, we expect the new products to
revolutionize the way climate control and thermal management is currently done in these
difficult cooling applications", says Alston.
Masterflux compressors have DC input from 12v to 400v+ are suitable for both refrigeration
and air conditioning. The compressors are compatible with a range of refrigerants. Limited samples
