BYERS ENGINEERING COMPANY AND BANDWIDTH.COMŽ ANNOUNCE LAUNCH OF NEW TELECOMMUNICATIONS CARRIER-TO-CARRIER
CO-CONSTRUCTION MATCHMAKING SERVICE.
Atlanta, Georgia / Salt Lake City, Utah, February 3, 2000 - Byers Engineering Company and bandwidth.com today announced a strategic alliance to offer the telecommunications industry a unique matchmaking service aimed at reducing the cost of constructing new fiber routes, wireless networks, and central offices throughout the US and internationally.
Under the terms of the agreement, Byers Engineering Company and bandwidth.com will co-manage the new service jointly designed by both companies. The co-build matchmaking service is specifically targeted to provide the telecommunications industry a new and innovative tool to identify potential partners interested in the co-construction of a variety of network facilities and infrastructure. Initially, several very specific co-construction and partnering opportunities will be targeted. This will include partnering on inter-state, intra-state, and intra-city fiber routes, wireless infrastructure, and co-construction of central offices.
This service will create more attractive business models for large scale network projects through co-construction, co-ownership, and by identifying potential partners who have similar needs through one centralized pooling point. The more partners that can be identified for co-builds, the greater the opportunity to reduce a carrier's cost of construction through the sharing of capital expenditures. There are additional services planned in the near future that include cooperative building entrance opportunities and other services designed to reduce engineering and construction costs for the carrier market.
The co-build matchmaking service will be accessed through bandwidth.com and will be an addition to bandwidth.com's already successful online brokering service of wholesale high bandwidth (T1's to OC192's) for carriers and large corporate clients and DSL services for the small business and residential market. The service will be open to all carriers worldwide, but the initial focus will be domestic alliances and partnerships.
Because bandwidth.com and Byers provide very different services to the same markets, they share a number of large clients including some of the nation's largest communications companies. This diversity in service offerings is the primary formula that made the co-build matchmaking service possible. Initially, neither company will charge any fees associated with offering this service.
"Together we are offering a simple, comprehensive, and confidential service for carriers to negotiate among themselves," said Jay Morris, Director of Business Development for Byers Engineering Company. "Once a match is found, the potential partners negotiate among themselves. We plan to help further enable the process, not to intervene or complicate it. Bandwidth.com's proven success offering value-added carrier services was a perfect fit for Byers Engineering. Our clients either match or complement one another, and we share a common vision to assist our clients in building, marketing, and managing their network assets," said Morris.
"I am very pleased with our relationship with Byers Engineering Company," said David Morken, President of bandwidth.com. "With Byers' 29 years of experience in carrier builds and bandwidth.com's success in marketing carrier bandwidth, I am confident that we will add tremendous value to the carrier-to-carrier market. Clearly what separates us from other carrier-to-carrier e-service providers is our unmatched list of affiliated carriers and our strong focus on US markets. In addition, we offer significant resources to help facilitate these types of complex transactions both internally and through our partner Byers Engineering," said Morken.
